Château La Croix de Gay 2014 represents a significant vintage for this historic Pomerol estate, whose roots in the appellation trace back to 1477, making the Raynaud-Lebreton family the oldest wine-growing family in Pomerol. The property is located in the northern portion of the Pomerol appellation on the high terrace, situated near renowned estates such as Pétrus and L'Evangile.

The 2014 vintage was the inaugural year for the estate's newly constructed cellar, which features a gravity-flow design completed in 2015. This modern facility utilizes small, tulip-shaped cement vats that provide excellent thermal inertia, with each vat's capacity precisely matched to individual vineyard plots for optimized vinification.

The 4.2-hectare vineyard is evenly divided between two distinctive terroir types: Günz gravel on the upper Pomerol terrace and clay-gravel soils on the southern slope of the plateau. The estate is planted to 95% Merlot and 5% Cabernet Franc, with vines averaging approximately 30 years of age. This particular blend composition for the 2014 vintage showcases the characteristics imparted by both soil types, contributing to the wine's complexity.

The 2014 vintage displays a deep, saturated ruby color with a vibrant edge. The bouquet reveals aromas of black cherry, toasted oak, and liquorice, complemented by notes of earth and undergrowth characteristic of Pomerol terroir. On the palate, the wine presents concentrated flavors with structured tannins and a finish that is not overly dry. The wine underwent 18 months of aging in French oak barrels, with 50% new oak contributing to its aromatic profile and texture.

This wine pairs well with classic meat dishes including roasted beef, lamb, and game, as well as aged cheeses. For optimal enjoyment, serve at 15-18°C. The wine can be brought to serving temperature by removing it from a wine storage area approximately one to two hours before serving, or by placing it in a standard refrigerator for 20-30 minutes if stored at room temperature. Decanting for 45-60 minutes before serving is recommended to allow the wine to open and soften. ABV 13.5%.
